Zeuke and Wegwerth

(East Berlin GDR East Germany)

A limited partnership (KG) was created by Werner Zeuke and Helmut Wegwerth to form Zeuke and Wegwerth soon after WWII. The business was in the 'Eastern Bloc' and therefore under Soviet control. The Soviets ordered toy production to commence in 1946, at which point Zeuke and Wegwerth launched their intial range of 0 gauge models, beginning with the FD 50 and matching coaches. Zeuke purchased the 0 gauge model business of Stadtilm in 1955, thereby expanding the Zeuke range. A TT range was launched in 1957, and the last new 0 gauge models, steeple cab locomotives, were intoduced c1961, the complete 0 gauge range being discontinued shorty afterwards. Zeuke was nationalised as VEB Berliner TT-Bahnen in 1972.
