Zeuke and Wegwerth initial production was the 0 gauge Borsig style FD 50 locomotive, for three rail operation, using 24v AC motors. The locomotive, tender and coaches were manufactured using Bakelite, allowing finer detail than tinprinting. The locomotive featured a manual reverse switch.
The next development was isolation of all three rails, with two pickups per rail (six in total) below the locomotive, with direction being achieved by powering the centre rail and one outside rail at a time. The locomotive reversed when power was switched from one outer rail to the other, the centre rail remaining common. Locomotive wheels were Phenoplast, an early plastic resin, to achieve insulation.
