The company was formed by Morton E Converse in Converseville, New Hampshire, making wooden toys from 1873. Converse joined forces with Orland Mason of Winchendon, Massachusetts to form the Mason and Converse Company which traded until 1883, after which Converse was joined by his uncle Alfred C Converse, creating Converse Toy and Woodenware Company. The company name changed to Morton E Converse and Company in 1887, finally ceasing trading in 1934.
