Initially formed as The Double Fabric Tire Company in 1913, the name changed to Auburn Rubber during the 1920s, switching to rubber toy production in 1935. Production of toys was continued until 1959. The toys were advertised as soft rubber like vinyl at the time of manufacture although most are now hard and inflexible. The range included trains, road vehicles, farms and zoos, soldiers and cowboys. Later toys were hard plastic, particularly buildings which were not unlike Plasticville. Auburn Rubber also used the names Aub-Rub and Arcor.
