Noma was established as a co-operative of fifteen existing small businesses, all with similar products, to trade as National Outfit Manufacturer's Association, or NOMA, beginning 1925 and consolidated as a single business by 1927. Although best known for Chistmas lights, Noma also produced toys, particularly wooden pull along toys during and after WWII, when materials were scarce. Plastic toys followed. Noma filed for bankruptcy in 1965.
The Talking Station by Noma was powered by two 'D cell' 1.5v batteries, and actuated by a button on top of the station roof, or cupola. The building contains a small record player with at least four pre recorded discs available. The station was available with either red or green roof, red being the more common. At one time, Joe Mania of JLM Trains manufacturered a modern digital sound module for the Noma Talking Station.
