Quality Craft Models was founded by Bob and Shirley Weaver in 1965. What started as an operation producing Wooden Craftsman Kits consisting of buildings, rolling stock, etc., in gauges from N to O, evolved, under the leadership of Joe Hayter, into a major manufacturer of ready-to-run plastic (and brass) "O" Gauge 2-Rail and 3-Rail models. Joe Hayter, Bob Weaver's son-in-law, became president of the company in 1969 and purchased the buiness from the Weavers in 1993. Joe Hayter announced his retirement in 2015 and Weaver closed in June that year, ending fifty years of production. Some tooling for various Weaver products was acquired by Atlas and Lionel. For the full story of Bob Weaver, Joe Hayter, Quality Craft and Weaver Models, see the TCA Western web site.
The death of Bob Weaver was announced in August 2021.
