The Sherwood Section of the LMS

(Oxfordshire, UK)

The Sherwood Section of the LMS was, like Crewchester, a British Instritution. Built by the late Norman Eagles, the layout was clockwork powered 0 gauge coarse scale, and run strictly to timetable - Mr Eagles was employed in the timetabling department of London Transport. The layout was constructed in a building, in the garden of his Oxfordshire home, and was regularly featured in British model railway magazines over many years.

The locomotive illustrated below is a vintage 0 gauge LMS 4-6-0 Black 5 tender locomotive, running number 5152, powered by a Bassett-Lowke clockwork motor, the superstructure believed to be CCW kit based. Wheels are cast iron, 28mm back to back, and the loco once formed part of the Sherwood Section stable.

The two LMS loco coal wagons illustrated below were scratchbuilt around 1970 by Pat Messer for Norman Eagles, and formed part of the Sherwood Section of the LMS clockwork layout. The wagons are of wooden construction, fitted with Jackson brass wheels and single link couplings.
