Howell Day, trading as both H Owen and Shop-Craft, was a keen railroad modeller and an early model shop proprietor (The Model Railroad Shop), in Dunellen NJ, producing kits for both H0 and 0 scale, and was an early importer of Japanese brass models. The business was sold to Leonard Lippman in 1948 and run on his behalf by Fred Deibert, who then purchased it in 1950, owning until 1981, at which point it was sold to the current owners, Rick Dunbar and Jack de Rosset.

Howell Day subsequently purchased Red Bull Models, which he sold to Merle Rice of Wabash Valley Models in 1975.
