The Hornby M3 tank loco was produced from 1931-1941, in the liveries of the 'Big Four' railway companies. Power was clockwork, 6v electric and 20v electric. Each model was initially (1931-32) issued with 8 spoke wheels, no cylinders, no coupling rods, clockwork only then (1932-36) 12 spoke wheels, no cylinders, no coupling rods, clockwork, 6v electric and 20v electric and finally (1936-41) 8 spoke wheels, with cylinders and coupling rods, clockwork, 6v electric and 20v electric. The M3 was a cheaper version of the No 1 Tank loco, the main difference being the lithographed M3 body, the No 1 Tank being enamelled. The M3 Tank Loco was reintroduced following WWII, as the 101 Series, at which time wheels were usually green or black (M3 locos having red wheels), and a centre lamp bracket was added to the front buffer beam.
