Great Universal Stores

(Manchester, United Kingdom)

Great Universal Stores (GUS) was a mail order business in the UK, with a catalogue system similar to Sears and Montgomery Ward in the US. The business was formed in 1900, the mail order catalogue business being sold in 2004, at which time it was merged with the similar Littlewoods operation. The third name in British mail order, Kays, had been owned by Great Universal since 1937.
