Great Lakes Productions 0 Gauge

(USA/Mexico)

Great Lakes Productions imported from Mexico to USA, late 1980s, a series of plastic train sets manufactured using the tooling which Marx had sent to Mexico some years earlier. The same tooling was used by Model Power for at least two sets, after Plastimarx ceased production and before the Great Lakes sets were produced.

The Great Lakes sets came with cars made in a variety of colours that varied from set to set. Some locos had a heat stamped number (4451 or 51010) under the cab window, and the caboose was either plain or decorated as Rock Island, Southern or Arkansas. Trucks were (always?) painted black.
