The following images illustrate an O Scale NYC&HR-Solvay Process Gondola #X1039, Scratchbuilt by John Addis

Custom Built O-Scale freight car models by John Addis are well known among modelers active in the O-scale community. Addis produced a wide variety of rail equipment up until his passing around 2005. This superbly constructed 1900's gondola is typical of the early and pre-20th Century prototypes that he favored.

The car body is built entirely of wood. There are many lost wax castings and specially-formed wire components. The truck side-frames are plastic (Athearn?) with Northwest ShortLine wheel sets.

The Solvay Process Co. manufactured soda ash for use in industry and operated in New York state from 1880 all the way through to 1985
